So far in RP

Alright life in RP so far is still good and relaxing.. I have already adapted to the method of teaching there.

Problem based learning (PBL) is really an interesting method to pick up things and knowledge from a lesson. Like when you realise that you can do it another way. It just hits you and you would remember.

So far I’m still trying to find ways to go back to NCC. But the timetable still forbids. Oh well…

Samsung Forum 2011 ( Galaxy Tab 10.1 )

March 8, 2011 3 comments

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Specification:
Size: 246.2×170.4×10.9 (599g)
Display: 10.1″ 1280×800 (WXGA) TFT
Processer: Dual Core Application Processor – 1GHz
Camera: 8MP AF with LED Flash + 2MP Front
Sound: Stereo Speakers
Connections: MicroUSB, 3.5mm Ear Jack
Battery: 1650mAh
OS: Android OS Honeycomb

Design
The device itself is once again like the Samsung Galaxy S II, It is really light! When you expect to carry a 10.1 inch device, usually it would be slightly heavy, when it comes to the Galaxy Tab 10.1
it would really suprise you how light the device is.

The back of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is made of the same plastic used on the Galaxy S II, with thes sides made to make it easier to grip and hold the device feels really comfortable to hold.
With a weight of 599g it is what i believe to be the lightest 10 inch tablet out there.

UI
The New UI in Honeycomb is rather confusing at the start maybe cause it has changed quite alot. But once you try it out you would know how to navigate around, It gets really easy.
The UI does have alot of graphical effects to it, and the hardware and software shows no problem handling them smoothly. The UI is simple like other Stock android phones, just moved around with buttons now intergrated into the screen and it works the same in any orientation the device is in.

Camera
The Camera UI is something rather familiar in your stock android UI, where the interface is at the right all tidily packed. The UI is simple and the pictures looks great with the front facing camera, however there seems to lack the touch to focus function in the camera.

The photo quality of the pictures taken are quite decent here a shot from the front facing camera :D

Browser
One of the most important features of Android, with Flash player 10.1 this device ensure you get a full web experience. Looking much like Google Chrome browser, the UI of the browser is easy and simple to use with opening a new page just a click away on the top. Loading websites with flash enabled was smooth and quick too, showing no signs of slow down while loading flash content in the web.

Audio
The Audio Dual surround speaks are the features of this tablet. The speakers when at it max, shows it powers in clear audio with surround sound.
Even in the loud enviroment, the sounds is still audiable and is as loud as what you expect from any Samsung device.

To sum things up, The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is indeed a MultiMedia Powerhouse with a 10.1 inch screen, surround-sound speakers and 1080p FullHD video playback @ 30 fps. Not to forget about it as one of the lightest and slimmest media devices, This makes this tablet the best MultiMedia Tablet in the market so far, Along with the Android OS Honeycomb.
You could expect Full Web experience thanks to the Flash player and Dual core Processor to ensure everything running smooth!

Samsung Forum 2011 (Galaxy S II)

March 7, 2011 1 comment

It good to be chosen to go to these events :D
I would want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to SAMSUNG MOBILE SINGAPORE, for giving me this chance to go to the Samsung Forum 2011. It been a great honor and a privilege!

Now time to share on what was announced, If you have Seen Mobile World Congress 2011. You would find it the same way they announced the product here :D

During the Presentation, Samsung did say that they placed their attention more towards their Flagship Devices. So Expect alot more attention now as they are really serious with the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1

Now to the Devices, I will be covering Samsung Galaxy S II (Duh) and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung Galaxy S II
Specification -
Weight: 125.3X66.1X8.49mm
Display: 4.3″ WVGA SUPER AMOLED Plus
Processer: Samsung Dual Core Application Processor – 1GHz
Camera: 8MP AF with LED Flash + 2MP Front
Connections: MicroUSB, 3.5mm Ear Jack
Battery: 1650mAh
OS: Android OS Gingerbread

The Device itself is a truely beautiful device, the screen is dropdead gorgeous. The Super AMOLED plus display is really something your eyes must lay upon.

The Screen at the Size of 4.3 Inch may sound big.. but once you hold the device, It fits perfectly for your viewing pleasure.
Samsung said that Super AMOLED Plus display uses 15% Lesser power then the Regular Super AMOLED and has Increased 18% Sharpness compared to TFT LCD Displays.
They also used Gorrila Glass on the display so i’m guessing no need for Screen protecter then :P

Design
The design of the Phone is rather Simple, Samsung Used their Plastics again but with a new back design which helps in gripping your phone without it slipping

The device is really light and thin at 118g weighing at 116g, making this devices the lightest and thinnest in the market at the moment
Afew shots to see the thinnest device

UI
The UI of the device is not really New, If you have seen TouchWiz 3.0 you would know how to use this.
Touch Wiz 4 did not really undergo a huge change, but it has indeed become more Graphical and Eyecatching.
Widgets are now more Picture based campared to matching the UI, It looks more Professional and elegant. Something some phone would never have :P
To all who were wanting to see the Gingerbread screen off animation hit this device, sadly it did not hit any of these phones on the demo.
Less talk more photos!

Camera
The Camera is no show off it really perform really really well. The Camera UI is really neat all tucked in at the side bars and easy to ascess.
8MP picture are really crisp and sharp, i wished i could give you a picture but i could not get one :(
1080p video recording was fluid and the playback was also really fluid. The recorded sound came out clear in the environment with so many people. ( Voodoo sound? )

The 4 Hubs of the Galaxy S II
Not much i could do on the Hubs, Mine kept crashing on me so a rough overview is all i can do.
Social Hub:
Social hub would be a Application/Feature where you can integrate contacts/calender and a unified Inbox for your Socialfeeds like Facebook or Twitter.
Premium Social Hub with Push notification of SNS/Email/IM and Basic with POP3/IMAP Email and IM
Music hub:
Music hub is where the user can download music from be it a chart list, top featured music or any music from this service. Not much was given to me for this particular Hub

“Keep the music close. Samsung’s new native music player provides an intuitive playback system to search, discover, preview, purchase and download tracks on the go. The app will also provide rich information on purchases, with access to all the artists, lyrics and reviews you desire. Get recommendations for new tracks and add to the excitement with bass enhancement and 5.1 channel sound”
– Quote from Samsung Galaxy S II Page – http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/feature.html
Readers Hub:
Readers Hub with 20 million book titles is once of a place where the users can get Book, News paper, magazine from this service. I managed to download Today Newspaper on the device and it was rather easy as they could sort by nations and feature different newspaper on that country.

“Readers Hub is a great place to flip through your library of classics or browse for best sellers with over two million to choose from, but you’ll also be able to set up some 2,500 magazines in 20 languages and 1,600 of newspapers in 47 languages for delivery. Crisp, sharp text makes reading a pleasure and easy to manage, with magnify, text only and page views, audio access, and more as well as one touch sharing ” – Quote from Samsung Galaxy S II Page – http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/feature.html
Game Hub:
The Game hub is for all your gaming needs. With apps inside optimized for the Galaxy S II, Users get a wide range of games from that hub. Unfortunately, it was not working on my device again and i can’t show you a picture of it :(
“Join in on the action. The Samsung GALAXY S II’s Game Hub lets you to download high quality games, providing 12 social network games and 13 premium games including Gameloft’s Let Golf 2 and Real Football 2011 Let’s Search for games and new release information or play away. With an accelerometer, a magnetic sensor and gyroscope sensors dynamic hand and arm movement games stand out from the crowd. The slightest tilt and you’re dead – now that’s entertainment.” – Quote from Samsung Galaxy S II page, http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/feature.html
